Starting Over With a New Identity

If you forget your passcode and have not linked your phone with a Trustee to enable the ability to reset it, you will not be able to continue using the Mesh. The Mesh requires you to enter your passcode before you can complete sensitive transactions. Your passcode is a secret shared only between you and a Trustee. There is no central service that can help if you need to reset it. Should you find yourself in this state where you have no hope of remembering your passcode, you will need to start over with a new identity to continue using the Mesh.

When you enroll with the Mesh, the identity you create is associated to the phone number you verified during enrollment. When you start over with a new identity, the Mesh frees up that phone number allowing you to move forward with establishing a new identity from scratch on the same phone. You will no longer have access to your old identity or any data that was associated to it. Any connections to services you have made using your old mesh identity will need to be re-established with the service provider. Any data that was encrypted and stored on the Mesh either as part of your interaction with the Mesh In product, or with services using the Mesh to store data, will be inaccessible by your new identity or anyone else. Your "member since" date will also be reset to the date that the new identity was established.

If you have not been on the Mesh for long or haven't been using the Mesh to access many services, restarting with a new identity might only be a minor inconvenience. If, however, you have been using the Mesh to authenticate to many different services or have stored sensitive data encrypted on the Mesh, you might want to consider the negative consequences and spend more time working to recall your passcode before restarting with a new identity.
